You sit in an office with monitors, observing the footage from the security cameras positioned at strategic spots in the restaurant. Once the power is exhausted, you no longer have the advantage. With the aid of the doors, you can trap the animatronics. Although each night watch is six hours in the game, it's just 8 and 37 seconds in your time.

Each night represents a level of the game. As you progress, the game gets harder. Night 1 is an introductory level. It gets you accustomed to the workings of the game. The only active animatronics here are Chica Chicken and Bonnie Bunny.

Night 3 is where things get more difficult. The animatronics get aggressive, and Freddy Fazbwar becomes more active. Finally, night 5 is the final night of the main game. On the previous night, the game starts with a call from Phone Guy, a character who explains the details of the level.

Night 5 has a different start. It starts with distorted voices on the other end of the phone. The call ends in screeching, adding to the creepiness of the night. At this level, all the animatronics are active. It is the hardest to play.

The goal is to survive five nights at the pizza place without getting caught by the animatronics. If they catch you, they stuff you into a spare mascot costume full of nails, sharp edges and wiring. This crushes the body, kills the player and ends the game.

• Freddy Fazbear: Freddy is a brown animatronic bear. During the day, Freddy is an entertainer, black hat and all. He is easygoing and plays the happy guy role perfectly. At night, Freddy is an expert at scaring the watchman. He sings songs and laughs at him regularly to taunt him. He is sneaky and jumps out of the shadows to attack the player. Freddy has variations such as Withered Freddy and Golden Freddy.
• Bonnie Bunny: Bonnie is a blue animatronic rabbit. He is the guitarist in Freddy's band. He uses a red guitar on the stage and acts as a laid-back rock musician. At night, he becomes a killer, murdering anyone he sees in the pizzeria in an attempt to avenge his deaths. Bonnie gives up easily when attacked, so he's one of the easier animatronics to deal with. He notices you stare at him through the camera and stares right back.
• Chica Chicken: Chica Chicken is a yellow animatronic chicken. She is the backup singer in Freddy's band. She looks like the regular, lovable singing chicken during the day. She loves pizza and can be a glutton where it is concerned. Her gluttony distracts her from her kills sometimes. She is also persistent. She will wait at doors and go on pursuits of the night watchman. She does not give up as easily as Bonnie does.

• Foxy the Pirate: Foxy is a crimson animatronic fox. He is an independent entertainer, not a member of Freddy's band. He has his stage in the pizza place. He is a pirate, which comes with a pirate personality and accent. He is the most discerning of animatronics.

Golden Freddy is a hidden animatronic. He is a yellow animatronic bear that makes it seem like the player hallucinates. He is sly and calculating, but it's nothing you can't handle!
